The life-saving work that Pet Haven does each day is emotional, intense, and life-saving. But above all, it’s fragile. We’re not immune to the rising costs affecting us all — and right now, we need your help.
What does “Bridge the Gap” mean?
Between January and May 2024, Pet Haven spent $199,208.06 on vet expenses. In that same time, adoption fees brought in only $105,659.72.
That leaves a funding gap of $93,548.34, — a gap we must close to continue providing care to Minnesota pets in need.
Our loyal community makes this work possible.
Time and again, we hear the same thing: Pet Haven was the only rescue that responded. The only one that helped a pet owner in crisis. The only one that welcomed a senior or special-needs pet. The only one who answered the phone.
We always answer the phone, we will always answer the phone.
Last year, we were faced with the decision to shut down intake for an entire month. This year we are not going to let that happen. This is a call to action; keep our arms and doors open and help us Bridge the Gap.
We know this is a big ask — and a big number. But we believe in being honest. While we usually focus on the joy and hope in this work, sometimes we have to speak plainly: we can’t do this without you.
Help us bridge the gap- for pets like Boris.
Today, Boris is safe, loved, and finally on the road to recovery. Soon, he will be fully healed and ready for a forever family where he will never have to live in fear, pain, or danger again. We are excited to see what his future brings and grateful that we had the ability and resources to give him that future.
Hundreds of lives- including Boris' count on us every day. Help us be there for them. Help us keep them safe.

Founded in 1952, Pet Haven is the first foster-based rescue in Minnesota. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home dogs and cats, working closely with adopters to find the right match to create forever families for every Pet Haven pet. We provide needed medical treatment, high-quality food, enrichment, training, and behavioral support to every animal in our care. We also offer pre-adoption and post-adoption support and every Pet Haven alumni has a safe place to land back at Pet Haven if ever in need.
All our animals are in loving foster homes, not in a shelter. Our foster program benefits both the animals in our care and their future families. Our foster families prepare animals for adoption by giving them a chance to live in a home where they can fully express their personality, work to overcome fears, recover from trauma, and receive needed training, giving them a better chance at a forever home.
We can’t adopt our way out of pet overpopulation. We address homelessness at the root through our spay/neuter initiatives. We were the first organization in Minnesota to require spay/neuter prior to adoption and have continued to support efforts to reduce overpopulation through programs and grants. More than 8,000 animals have been altered through our grant program.
Volunteers are key to helping Pet Haven achieve its mission by helping to lead and support all core functions of the organization. We have over 500 volunteers, which helps keep our administrative costs down, allowing your donations to go directly to the animals who need help. Come join our amazing team of volunteers!
