Foster Changes in the Dog Division

Foster Changes in the Dog Division

Greetings Pet Haven fosters!

We are excited to share news with you– our incredible fosters- about the upcoming changes and improvements to Pet Haven’s foster program.  Please read this email to the end, as there is a lot of important, good stuff you need to know!

Why the changes, you ask?  Because as we grow, we need streamlined processes and better systems to provide fosters’ orientation, communication, and logistical support.  Fostering is meant to be fun, not frustrating.  Our hope is that your fostering experience as we roll these new changes out!

What you need to know:

  1. Every foster at Pet Haven (whether active, on break, or a respite) is linked to a “foster mentor”  (previously known as the “Pod Coordinator” role).  The foster mentor is your go-to person for when you have a question and don’t know who to ask.  However, the foster mentor role is changing!  And some of you may have new foster mentors, as Karen and Shannon are stepping away from this role.  You can find your foster mentor by clicking this link. You will be receiving an introductory email from your foster mentor within the next few days!
  1. Pet Haven’s Dog Foster Manual has been revised and updated. Consider this manual a must-read!  The manual clearly explains, step-by-step, Pet Haven’s new policies and procedures, including the following:
  • How to get supplies for your foster dog (new role at Pet Haven!)
  • How to schedule vetting for your foster dog (new role at Pet Haven!)
  • Everything you need to know about adoption events (new role at Pet Haven!)
  • How to find your new foster dog
  • How to request a respite foster (new role at Pet Haven!)
  • How to get training/behavior support for your foster dog (new role at Pet Haven!)
  • How to adopt your foster dog, including the contract and payment
  • A comprehensive contact list for all positions (including our NEW Supplies Coordinator, Vet Care Coordinator, Training and Behavior Coordinator, Respite Coordinator, Adoption Events Coordinator)

Please read this manual! We know, it’s not super-duper exciting, yet we cannot stress it’s importance and it contains information which is essential to your role as a foster. You will be constantly referring back to it when you have a question and need to know whom to contact. The manual can be found as an attachment below in 2 formats (Word and PDF.)  Please note:  a link to the current manual is permanently located on the bottom of Pet Haven’s Foster Page!  We encourage you to use this link, as it will always reflect changes and updates to the manual!

3.  When do all these new processes begin?  February 6th!  Now that you know your foster mentor and have the revised foster manual in hand, we invite you to attend a meeting to learn more about these new processes and ask questions. We’re offering 3 in-person meetings and 1 online meeting, and all of the meetings are scheduled as events on Pet Haven’s Volunteer Facebook page:

  • Thursday, February 2nd.  Maple Grove library Meeting Room (7-8:30 PM)
  • Saturday, February 4th St. Louis Park Lunds/Byerly’s community room (2:30-4 pm)
  • Sunday, February 5th, Woodbury Lunds/Byerly’s community room (12-1:30 pm)
  • Tuesday, February 8th. This meeting will take place online, via screensharing. To join the meeting, click: https://join.me/jenny.jurek

That’s it for now!  Stay tuned for an email from your foster mentor, please review the manual, and we hope to see you at one of our upcoming meetings (feel free to RSVP by email to director@pethavenmn.org or on the Facebook events by clicking “going”)

And thank YOU for all you do on behalf of Pet Haven’s dogs.

Warmly,

Kate Mudge, ED
