Kat Ricker: Volunteer Spotlight

Kat Ricker: Volunteer Spotlight

Kat is one of Pet Haven’s newer board members; she is focusing on building and strengthening our special events such as Pints for Paws. It’s fantastic to have someone who “gets” events to offer their skills and strategy to Pet Haven!

Here’s a little more about Kat:

PH: What is the name of the people and animals in your home?

K: My boyfriend Scott and cat Loki

PH: Why did you decide to volunteer with Pet Haven?

K: I wanted to give back while still doing something I loved. I have always had a passion working with animals and making difference in their lives. Pet Haven is an incredible organization not only for the animals but for the people within such as volunteers and foster families. It is fantastic sitting on the board as I feel like I am truly making decisions that help the animals.

PH: What inspires you to volunteer with animals?

K: I’ve always been passionate about animals, maybe sometimes too passionate as I am always one to cry during a video about an animal in need. To me, I feel like I was given the gift of voice so I want to use that to be an advocate for those that don’t have that voice and power. Helping animals always felt like a natural instinct rather than second-hand thought.

PH: What is your most memorable volunteer experience?

K: It’s hard to pick one, but I think being in the board meetings are most memorable. It is amazing to feel the passion in the room and to work on projects knowing that everyone wants the same outcome: to better the lives of animals.

PH: What is your favorite….

Food – Pizza and Red wine, together.

Movie – The East, The Green Mile

Band (singers) – Gregory Alan Isakov, Ivan & Alyosha
