Surgical and Clinic Technician Needed 

Summary 

Pet Haven is seeking an experienced CVT to join our growing in-house veterinary team. Our team is small and dedicated- we rely on each other to help out in all areas whenever needed. We rely heavily on community volunteers and work closely with them to provide the best possible care for each pet we see. Candidates with rescue/shelter experience are preferred but not required. 

Must demonstrate strong communication skills and professionalism. This is a full-time position and will require flexibility with regard to scheduling and responsibilities. This role is integral in the continued growth of the organization, and the expectation will be that the roles and responsibilities are likely to grow and change as the organization does. 

This person will report to the Pet Haven medical director. 

This is a full-time position on-site at the St Paul headquarters. 

Some on-call/after-hours responsibilities are expected.

Compensation 

  • $39,000- $46,000 annually, depending on skill set and experience

Duties Include: 

  • Collaborating with the Medical Director and Clinic Manager, as well as other members of the veterinary team/volunteers, to schedule animals for needed surgeries in-house. 
  • Scheduling patients for internal and community day surgery clinics and corresponding with fosters and owners of community animals. 
  • Maintaining surgical suite cleanliness and organization, and ensuring all supplies needed are present, and records are completed in a timely manner Perform inventory on surgical supplies and alert the Medical Director of necessary ordering of supplies 
  • Manage and run high-volume/high-quality spay-neuter clinics with 25-40 patients per clinic. 
  • Properly maintain the controlled substance log as required by the DEA
  • Performing anesthesia, including drug calculations, induction, intubation, surgical prep, and monitoring of surgical patients before, during, and after surgery. 
  • Communicate with fosters and community clients regarding post-operative care and follow-up questions. 
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and microchips, and perform phlebotomy. 
  • Assist with Intake exams and other in-house medical care for rescue animals as needed. 
  • Assist attending veterinarian in exams and medical care as directed. Clean surgical instruments and prepare surgical packs for clinics. Medical record keeping and data entry. 
  • Train volunteers to assist with various tasks related to surgical equipment maintenance, cleaning, etc. 

Qualifications 

  • Certified Vet Tech with experience assisting with Surgery.
