Pet Haven Sponsors Successful Spay Day Event

Kindest Cut VanOn Tuesday, February 26, 2013 Pet Haven took another important step in helping companion animals through sponsorship of a Spay Day event in partnership with Kindest Cut.

Tuesday, February 26 was World Spay Day, a day focused on bringing attention to pet overpopulation.  It is estimated that upwards of 90,000 pets are humanely euthanized at animal shelters each year in the State of Minnesota alone.  In celebration of World Spay Day day, a collaboration of animal shelters and animal welfare organizations joined together for a Spay-a-Thon throughout Minnesota.

The event sponsored in-part by Pet Haven resulting in the spay/neuter of 69 cats and dogs, utilizing two trucks which located at the Golden Valley site of the Animal Humane Society (AHS).  Volunteers from AHS, the University of Minnesota of Veterinary Medicine and numerous rescue groups assisted with check in, recovery of the pets, and reunions with owners, as well as set up and clean up.

Spay Day in Minnesota was coordinated and sponsored by MnPAW, a coalition of animal rescue groups throughout the state of Minnesota. In addition to Pet Haven, other MnPAW member organizations have made generous financial and in-kind donations to support the overall efforts to surgically alter pets in our community, both on Spay Day and throughout the year.  Donor groups include Pet Haven, Inc., A Rotta Love Plus, Rescue a Golden of Minnesota, and Minnesota Spay Neuter Project.  Volunteers from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine as well as Leech Lake Legacy will help with customer service and patient care at many of the following locations across the state.
