Volunteer Spotlight: Becky

Volunteer Spotlight: Becky

One of Pet Haven’s most loyal advocates  is being spotlighted this week, and her name is Becky! She has been fostering cats with us for 39 years but has also held several other positions within the organization too. She is always willing to lend a helping hand wherever she can, and she is a cheerful, reliable member of the team who we are so grateful for.

Here’s a little more about Becky:

PH: What is the name of the people and animals in your home?

B: The resident cats who are so used to the coming and going of foster cats that they hardly hiss at all!  I imagine that they just roll their eyes and say “Here we go again”.

PH: Why did you decide to volunteer with Pet Haven?

B: In about 1978 I had a stray cat come to my house. As I could not keep him, my vet connected me with Pet Haven.  When I learned what Pet Haven did to help homeless animals, I wanted to be part of it and the rest is history.

PH: What inspires you to volunteer with animals?

B: I have loved cats ever since I was a child. When I found out that I could use that love to help cats and dogs to have a better life- I was hooked.

PH: What is your most memorable volunteer experience?

B: I have had so many. I like think that whoever is my current foster is the most memorable. Right now, I am fostering Sally who came from a hoarder and was very shut down.  Watching her come out of her shell has been very rewarding.

PH: What is your favorite:

Animal – Cat

Food – Peanut Butter

TV show – Any show that is about history or prehistory.

Movie – An oldie,  “The African Queen”

Band – Another oldie “Queen”

State – My home state of South Dakota
