Volunteer Spotlight: Beth

Volunteer Spotlight: Beth

We understand that jumping into the new experience of fostering can be an emotional – or at least confusing – experience for our foster home volunteers, so we have implemented a few volunteer positions to help ease this transition.

In addition to an amazing new foster onboarding team, once a foster home is approved and trained in, they are assigned to a Foster Mentor. These individuals have fostered animals with Pet Haven before, and can, therefore, answer practical, everyday questions that some of our newer fosters may have as they navigate their own fostering experience.

Beth is one of our most veteran Foster Mentors, counseling 24 of our foster homes. Here’s more about Beth:

PH: What is the name of the people and animals in your home?

B: My husband Bud, my human kids Jesse and Samantha and my rescued furbabies Zayne (4) & Zoey (2)

PH: Why did you decide to volunteer with Pet Haven?

B: When my Golden passed away my Boxer was lonely so I decided to try fostering until I was ready to add another dog to our family. After reading about different rescues Pet Haven seemed like a great rescue and I’m excited to say it is more wonderful than I expected.

PH: What inspires you to volunteer with animals?

B: I have always been such a huge dog lover and the feeling you get when you save a dog’s life, watch it blossom and eventually find their furever family is the most amazing feeling ever.

PH: What is your most memorable volunteer experience?

B: #1 has to be helping fellow foster friend Liz with her former foster dog Hunter, a feral puppy. With patience we helped teach him to trust and love people. That boy went through a lot and it was so amazing to be able to be part of his journey. #2 is every time I go up to [Pet Haven’s rescue partner] Red Lake Rosie’s, to help at the spay/neuter clinics.
