FAQ

Pet Haven FAQs:

Whether you're an interested adopter, volunteer, or supporter, we want you to know that we appreciate your passion and interest in animal rescue. We hope that our website is able to provide you with a good starting point for your inquiry and have provided some answers to our most frequently asked questions below!

What are your shelter hours?

We do not have a shelter, all of our dogs and cats reside in foster homes throughout the Twin Cities. If you are interested in a particular cat or dog, we ask that you fill out an application for that animal and the foster family will be in contact with you!

I just have a quick question about an animal before I apply, who do I contact?

We encourage you to complete an adoption application. There is no obligation to adopt once you learn more about the dog or cat. Due to the volume of emails we receive, we give priority to people who have filled out an application. We appreciate people’s interest and enthusiasm with animal rescue and feel that our fosters are the best people to answer your question!

How soon after I apply for an animal will I hear from you?

We know how exciting it is to search for a companion animal to add to your family. Which is why we process our adoptions applications within 48 hours. Which means that as soon as our adoption coordinator receives your application, they will share it with the foster family and you'll be contacted.  We will respond to every application, no matter what. If you do not receive an e-mail from us, it will be in your junk/bulk folder- we have not forgotten about you!

What is your phone number?

Pet Haven operates a voicemail system that will answer your call. Please leave a message and we will return your call. For a quicker response, we encourage you to email us. You can reach our voicemail system at (952) 831-3825.

Why are your adoption fees so “high”?

All of our adoptable cats and dogs have received the gold-standard in veterinary care prior to adoption: all age-appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, flea/tick preventatives, testing for FIV/FeLV and Heartworm/Lyme, and Heartworm preventative. We are confident that when you understand the costs of the comprehensive veterinary care that we provide our foster animals, you will understand that our adoption fees are not so high after all!

Do you discount your fees?

Pet Haven regularly offers promotions for our animals by offering reduced adoption fees. Adoption fees are listed under each animal's profile on our website.

Do you adopt outside of the Twin Cities area?

Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs and cats within a 75-mile radius of the Twin Cities area.

If I previously applied for a dog or cat, do I need to reapply?

Nope! If you have filled out an application within the past 3 months, we'll have your application on file. Simply email dogs@pethavenmn.org or cats@pethavenmn.org and let our adoption coordinator know that you're interested in applying for another animal.

Are you a non-profit?

We sure are! Pet Haven was incorporated in 1952 and our Federal EIN number is 41-6040860.

Which dogs and cats will be at your upcoming adoption event?

All of our fosters are volunteers, and we're not always certain of who will be bringing their cat or dog to a meet and greet. The best way to ensure that you get a chance to meet a dog or cat you're interested in adopting is to fill out an adoption application!
