Responsibilities of a Foster Friend may include: a) Escorting Pet Haven foster cats and/or dogs to the following: Pet Haven meet and greet events, Professional photographers, Veterinary appointments, Breweries (dog only, depending on temperament), Miscellaneous events (as approved by foster, based on temperament)
b) Taking dogs on midday walks or checking-in on pets for full-time working foster parents, as approved by foster.
c) Acting as an advocate for the foster animal and Pet Haven in the community, including through participating in Pet Haven’s regular community outreach initiatives.
d) Highlighting the foster animal’s strengths to potential adopters and providing information on any medical issues the animal experiences. Pet Haven will provide an information sheet about the animal.
e) Reporting any adoption leads to the foster family upon completion of an assignment.
As a Foster Friend, you must have a solid understanding of Pet Haven’s adoption, foster and foster-to-adopt policies.
You must provide your own transportation while performing Foster Friend activities (valid driver’s license or a willing guardian who will provide transportation). You can keep track of your mileage to mark as a non-profit donation at tax time.
Pet Haven will provide a list of available opportunities for Foster Friends and you may select any assignment from that list to fit your schedule or availability.
Pet Haven retains ownership of all animals in foster care and reserves the right to reclaim an animal at any time.
Foster animals are not to be exercised outdoors off-leash in any unfenced area and agree to keep Pet Haven foster animals on leash when outdoors at all times. Pet Haven strongly discourages foster dogs from attending off-leash dog parks.
If applicable, you will practice positive-reinforcement training principles with the foster animal.
Adoptive families are to be accorded respect and privacy. Foster Friends will not engage in excessively casual or aggressive contact with potential adopters or adoptive families.
If any questions or problems arise, you agree to immediately contact a Pet Haven representative.
You will keep the foster animal(s) safe at all times.
You will accept all responsibility for any events that may occur as a result of my participation as a Foster Friend. I acknowledge that there are inherent risks with animals, including but not limited to: bites, scratches, bruises, and/or damage to property.
You will hold Pet Haven harmless for any injuries to people, pets or for any loss or damage to property and agree to abstain from any legal recourse against Pet Haven, its agents, officers, employees, volunteers, etc.
You acknowledge that Pet Haven cannot guarantee foster animals against parasites, diseases, or destructive behavior. You will not hold Pet Haven responsible, nor seek any compensation for damages, medical fees, or other liabilities incurred by the foster pet to me, my property, or my resident animals.
Pet Haven reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate the Foster Friends program or this Foster Friends Agreement with you at any time and for any reason.
