Cats Like Yummi Need More Than Rescue! 06/13/2025 By Kerry S When Yuumi first came into Pet Haven’s care in May 2023, we knew she was special. A beautiful Russian blue cat with back-end nerve damage and a horribly frostbitten tail from a terrible snowplow accident. Yuumi was plowed over! She had already survived more than most. She was found by a Good Samaritan who brought her home and tried his best to help her, but she needed more than he could manage, so he called Pet Haven, and we got her the care she needed, including a tail amputation! A few months later, she was adopted by someone who adored her and was thrilled for her! But when her adopter was transferred overseas, honoring the Pet Haven Promise, Yummi came back to us in January 2024—still sweet, still resilient, but struggling with chronic health issues we hadn’t yet uncovered. After months of discomfort and testing, one of our clinic partners finally cracked the case: Yuumi’s nerve damage from the snowplow injury had made her prone to chronic urinary tract infections and an inability to fully empty her bladder. With a new treatment plan, daily medication, and a special urinary diet, Yummi is finally living a happy, pain-free, healthy life. She will need ongoing medication, antibiotics, and special food for the rest of her life—but thanks to our fosters, our vets, and supporters like you, she’ll have every chance to live it well. Cats like Yummi need more than a rescue—they need a community that won’t give up on them. Pet Haven is more than a rescue; we are committed to the lifetime relationships we build with people and pets. Yuumi is just one example of this. Please consider a gift in Yuumi honor!
