The Training and Behavior Coordinator responds to training and behavior requests from Pet Haven fosters and provides support for their foster dogs. This is done by personally walking them through training suggestions, meeting them for one-on-one work, and scheduling support sessions with training partners. The Training and Behavior Coordinator will assist in working with fosters and dog trainers to evaluate foster dogs’ behavior needs, setting up appropriate training ,thus ensuring Pet Haven fosters are getting the support needed and dogs are receiving the behavioral support needed for a successful adoption. This role is the main contact for daycare and boarding providers and is responsible for answering questions, responding to their concerns, and ensuring that Pet Haven’s policy is understood and followed. The Training and Behavior Coordinator also works closely with the Dog Division Manager and the Adoption Coordinator to facilitate the transfer of foster dogs to new foster homes and/or boarding facilities, if necessary. This position may assist in providing transport for animals. Responsibilities Collaborate with the Dog Adoption Coordinator, Dog Division Manager, foster mentors, and fosters to schedule behavior support Manage Training Team! This included volunteer trainers who help with assessment and home visits, and admin volunteers that help us stay on top of communication and know when to elevate. Serve as the main contact for fosters who request that their foster dog be transferred from their home due to behavior issues Work with Dog Adoption Coordinator to post dogs available for placement Upload documentation provided by trainers and fosters to animal management database (including communications from fosters regarding unwanted behavior) Provide resources to fosters and adopters for behavior issues (i.e.- resource guarding, dog introductions, barking, crate training), if needed Regularly and proactively communicate with foster homes to: Keep up to date with the needs, progress, and condition of foster dogs in care who are exhibiting unwanted behaviors Provide continued support to fosters and adopters Collaborate with Transport volunteers when a foster dog needs transport Maintain the current list of training partners and recruit new partners Create and update the resource page for common behavioral issues on Pet Haven website Communicate in a professional manner the mission, vision and values of Pet Haven Time Commitment and Pay 10-15 hours per month (depending on # of requests) Meeting fosters for assessment and training as needed. $20-$24 per hour hybrid. In person training/coaching sessions with some remote admin and training scheduling. Qualifications Intermediate computer skills including email, Google Suite, and social media Experience with dog behavior and common issues Comfortable communicating on phone and in person Great people and decision-making skills Experience as a foster home a plus Certified Dog Trainer a PLUS! Goals: Reduce owner surrender/returns by providing training support Support fosters becoming more knowledgeable about training tips Assist in creating and organizing a resource and training tips library for fosters and adopters Establish relationships with local trainers to provide assessments for PH dogs Assist in placing dogs in foster homes, including transferring when needed Job Type: Part-time Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week Work Location: Hybrid remote in Saint Paul, MN 55103
