Beautiful Byron needs a home!

Beautiful Byron needs a home!

Our beautiful boy, Byron, has been with us for 177 days!

We can’t believe it!

After sitting in a Mississippi shelter for 2 months he came up to a local shelter in early December. He passed his behavioral evaluation but tested positive for Demodex mange, which means he needed to be treated before being made available to adopt. He spent 23+ hours of his day stuck in a kennel as he underwent treatment.

Finally, once that was cleared up, he was put on the adoption floor. He was on the floor for a few days before being moved to the euthanasia list because he would freeze when someone walked past his kennel… while he had a peanut butter filled Kong in his kennel with him. (That’s it. Just froze. Over a high-value item. After being, essentially, in solitary confinement for weeks.)

He was given 14 days to find rescue and Pet Haven pulled him a few days prior to his euthanasia date after one of our reps got a chance to go in and meet him (and see how awesome he is).

He lived in a foster home with a cat and two other dogs. As was the case during his dog/dog introductions at the shelter, Byron could coexist just fine with other laid-back, surfer dude dogs. And cats? No problem for this guy.

He was happily adopted but his bully breed status preceded him, and the apartment complex he moved into didn’t allow his kind. It was a sad return for all and Byron hasn’t piqued anyone’s interest since.

SO thanks to a grant from Best Friends Animal Society, Byron’s adoption fee is just $20.18 for the month of July!

Meet Byron
