Pet Haven is growing! This is an exciting time to join our team and bring purpose to your work. Last year we rescued 845 pets in need and we expect more growth in 2021! We have identified the need for a Program Manager to join our team and help us expand programs for our rescued pets and the people we serve helping us save more lives!

The position is a full-time position 40 hours per week. This is currently a remote position but some in person work will be needed. Daily emailing and/or phone calls are required. Flexibility with schedule is a must. Weekend and evening hours will be a part of this position.

General Job Description

The Program Manager will develop and manage Pet Haven’s programs, including managing volunteer Coordinators and teams in the following areas intake, adoption, fostering and behavior support.

Founded in 1952, Pet Haven is Minnesota’s first foster-based animal rescue organization. Our mission is to improve the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond. What you’ll do as the Program Manager

The Program Manager will develop and manage Pet Haven’s programs, including managing volunteer Coordinators and teams in the following areas intake, adoption, fostering and behavior support.

Position Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Prepare and oversee an annual budget for Programs and teams under the Program Manager
  • Program Development and Management:
    • Oversee all areas of Intake, Fostering, Adoption and Behavior Support
    • Create and implement new programs and processes that support Pet Haven’s strategic initiatives and support growth in a cost-efficient
    • Stay current on national and local trends in animal rescue and welfare and participate and share knowledge with Pet Haven teams.
    • Implement programs that provide professional development opportunities for staff and volunteers
    • Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure efficient and streamlined communication about all things Pet Haven

People Management:

  • Manage Intake Coordinators, Foster Coordinators, Adoption Coordinators and Behavior Teams
  • Oversee and help train staff on risk mitigation and safety precautions in foster homes, on site, or at events.
  • Implement and train staff and volunteers in safe animal-handling skills
  • Create role and team clarity for intake, adoption, fostering and behavior support volunteers, including creating/maintaining position descriptions

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Love for animals and a strong commitment to Pet Haven’s mission
  • At least 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience or program management experience, preferably in an animal welfare environment.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in database management, social media, QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, and G-Suite, including Gmail and Google Drive
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to get along well with a variety of people
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on complex issues and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment under sometimes tight deadlines
  • Comfort and experience with delegating tasks
  • Ability to work independently and manage remote volunteers
  • Comfortable working in the animal welfare arena and the ability to recognize and mitigate compassion fatigue in yourself and others
  • Discretion and the ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information

Hours and Availability:  The Program Manager is a full-time position (40 hours per week). This is currently a remote position. Daily emailing and/or phone calls are required. Flexibility is required. Weekend and evening hours, in excess of 40 hours per week, will occasionally be a part of this position.

Supervisor:  Executive Director

Salary Range: $36,000 – $42,000
