A Beautiful Face - An "at risk" Shelter Dog Finds Love 04/20/2024 By Kerry S Another day, another doggo saved! "Humphrey was found wandering alone, covered in scars. He is a very shy, sweet boy who doesn't react to the other dogs. He has the most gentle mouth and keeps his kennel very clean. Humphrey soaks up affection from us." This is what the municipal shelter said about Humphrey. Humphrey was brought in to a municipal shelter partner after he was found wandering alone covered in scars. Although very shy, he is also incredibly sweet. Shelter staff noted that he has the most gentle mouth, kept his kennel very clean, and soaks up all the affection he can get. While we don’t know what his life was before this, his scars are indicative of what we see as a result of dog fighting rings. A dog like Humphry would have been what is called a "Bait Dog". These are generally sweet easy going dogs that are used to train the "Fighter Dogs." Its hard to think that there could be Dog Fighting in our own backyard but there is. Dog Fighting is a multi million dollar industry. Some fights will see bets in the six figures. Humane agents, animal control and police take dog fighting seriously. If you suspect dogs being mistreated or used for fighting please contact local authorities and file a report. The dogs need our help! Whatever may have happened, he’s here safe now. Humphrey joined Pet Haven and life will be guaranteed good from here on out! Pet Haven does not shy away from dogs like Humphrey. We help them know love, care, compassion and the comforts of family and home. We believe they deserve to be the best dogs they can be. Welcome to Pet Haven Humphrey, we’ve got you from here on out, buddy. His foster reports, “He is doing great! He is a true coach potato and spends most his time there. He is a loving dog and I’ve enjoyed having him here!
