There is Good in this World...Ya' Just Have to Look For it! 09/29/2025 By Kerry S Spec's Mom was found pregnant and abandoned in rural Minnesota. The kind person who found her took her home, where she could have her babies in a safe, warm place. There she stayed, along with her one son, Spec, for the rest of her well-loved life. Spec was a very lucky pup and knew only love and home for the first 11 years of his life. Spec was literally born into a family where he knew only love. Spec's original Mom sent us baby Spec photos! Then, in an instant, everything seemed to change. A financial and housing crisis ripped him from his family. This was devastating for all involved. At Pet Haven, we are empathetic and sympathetic to the heartbreak experienced by both Spec and his people. Pet Haven is well known to the rural shelter where Spec was surrendered, and they called us immediately. We said yes to bringing him into care even though we did not have a foster. We just knew he had to get him out of the shelter. We have been in touch with his mom, and will continue to send her updates on her boy! His mom was devastated. She said, “My heart sank when I was told he was taken. I bet he was so scared.” She was incredibly grateful when we reached out to let her know we had him and he was okay, more than okay. Safe. She let us know how to help this senior boy feel comfortable telling us about Spec’s favorite things: cozy pillows (he will steal all of them), floofy blankets, head scratches, and bars that serve endless amounts of turkey. There are few rescues out there, if any, that will search out an owner, let alone provide updates on their family members... we do. We put out a special plea for the senior boy, Spec. We couldn't have dreamed of the overwhelming support we'd receive to help get him out of the shelter. This update is about to make you cry... but for all the right reasons. . From birth to 11 years old, Spec spent his life with his OG mom. We were able to bring Spec into foster care, where he spent the last few months getting spoiled, looking for his "golden years" home. And then the application came in. A family that had been following his journey since that initial plea couldn't stop thinking about adding him to their life. They made it official on September 3rd and, well, we think the pictures say it better than we ever could. We continue to update Spec's original mom, and when we told her we were so sorry that she and Spec were separated, but that he was adopted into a wonderful home, she replied with gratitude and love: "There is good in this world. You just have to look for it." We value family. We understand and empathize when difficult decisions have to be made. We see first hand how hard it is for families in crisisIts an easy to sit in judgement and say with privlidge, " I would never give up my pet" but to sit in a place of the love, kindness and compassion for someone that is forced to make a horrible choice, is so much more powerful and impactful on ourselves and others.
