Give to the Max Minnesota! Pet Haven Supports Minnesota Pets and People 11/02/2022 By Kerry S The Season of Giving Begins with Give to the Max! Give Today This year Pet Haven Celebrates 70 years of rescuing, fostering, and changing lives through creating family. We are so proud to be Minnesota's FIRST foster-based rescue organization incorporated on November 3rd, 1952. Why is this important? Because Pet Haven has years of experience in the animal welfare industry leading the way for others to follow. Because we have the professionalism of service that these years of experience bring. Because we have longevity in the field of animal welfare and advocacy that builds trust with our community of adopters and our donors. Because our experience gives us insight into best practices for our animals' care and emotional health. Because of our 70 years of experience, we know just how important careful match-making is. We want to ensure both adopter and pet are the perfect matches reducing pets being returned and improving the human-animal bond. We ARE "match-makers." We focus locally, supporting Minnesota pets and people. What does this mean? It means we have made the intentional decision to not import dogs and cats from other states even though those pets deserve help too and it is a good business decision to do so because most pets come in fully vetted, we still focus locally. Due to so many rescue groups importing pets from out of state and watching Minnesota pets suffer sitting in municipalities and rural shelters, struggling strays on reservations, and so many Minnesota pet owners in crisis with few options for a safe place their pets can go, we made the intentional decision to stay local. There is an overwhelming need right here at home. That need is growing every day. We ARE making an impact. What does this impact look like? In 2021 818 Minnesota pets entered into a loving safe Pet Haven foster home. 212 dogs and 581 cats. All of them found adoptive families. This year to date 825 Minnesota pets have entered into a loving safe Pet Haven Foster Home: 172 dogs and 653 265 of these pets came through our owner surrenders program. Keeping these pets out of the shelters helps not just the pet but the owner rest easier knowing their family member is safe. In diverting surrender to a shelter we reduce possible euthanasia and leave the shelter open for strays. 771 of them have been adopted through our professional matchmaking to their perfect family. We place great importance on physical and emotional health along with providing a lifelong safety net for our Pets. What does this look like? We provide high-quality medical care for each and every pet that enters our foster program through strong partnerships and respect in the veterinary community We place value on the emotional well-being of the pet being careful to place them in an environment that they will thrive in with appropriate enrichment for positive mental health whether a foster home or adoptive home. We provide pre-adoption and post-adoption support to ensure not just our pets are supported but our adopters have the tools to feel confident in caring for their new family member. Through our support, we make sure they have the support they need to provide for the needs of their new pet thus improving and deepening the bond between them reducing pets being returned. We provide a safety net for our pets by microchipping EVERY pet that comes into Pet Haven. We register the chip for the adopter and stay on as a secondary contact for life. We cannot do this work alone. We work hard to build partnerships and value our relationships. What kind of relationships? We have built strong relationships with veterinary clinics across Minnesota that offer reduced rates to support our mission We have built a large network of volunteers that provide key administrative roles, fostering, transport and supplies help. Our volunteers keep our administrative costs down. We value them greatly. We are a founding member of MNPAW, Minnesota Partners in Animal Welfare, and work collaboratively with other rescue organizations. We build community relationships through outreach and support providing pet food to local food banks, and offering microchipping at little to no cost and a place for people to collaborate on changing lives at our new facility; Pet Haven's first facility made possible by a generous Trust earmarked for a physical space. We have much gratitude. Once a Pet Haven Pet, Always a Pet Haven Pet. Support Our Mission HERE
