Help Us Bridge The Gap For Borris! 06/13/2025 By Kerry S When Boris arrived at Pet Haven, his injuries were septic, having narrowly escaped a devastating coyote attack. We had received an urgent plea from Maple Grove Animal Control. They did not have the resources to help Borris and needed help. We didn’t know if he’d survive, but we knew we had to try. Without our help, Borris would not have left the shelter. The wounds were gruesome, and he couldn’t even stand up by himself. We jumped into action, doing everything we could to save him while he still had a chance. The first round of medications didn’t work the way we were hoping—but we didn’t give up and neither did his dedicated foster. We sent a culture of his wounds into a lab so we could develop a better understanding of what we were dealing with. With those results, we were able to adjust his treatment with specialized antibiotics, a targeted drug cocktail, and daily bandage changes at our headquarters. Slowly, Boris has begun to heal. He is pulling through the worst of his injuries and infection and has started to eat, walk, and wag his tail again. Today, Boris is safe, loved, and finally on the road to recovery. Soon, he will be fully healed and ready for a forever family where he will never have to live in fear, pain, or danger again. We are excited to see what his future brings and grateful that we had the ability and resources to give him that future. Helping animals like Boris is what we do here at Pet Haven. We take in those who need our help the most. But behind every story like Boris’ is a growing challenge for our organization. Veterinary care is expensive, and the cost of medical care has increased by over 40% in the last 4 years. Every day, we’re asked to help animals in crisis. Saying “yes” means covering diagnostics, surgeries, medications, and recovery care. We do everything we possibly can to reduce costs, but it isn't enough. Right now, what we’re spending to save lives is dramatically outpacing what our adoption fees provide. Without the support of our amazing community, we could not continue to help pets like Boris. This time last year, we had to close intake because we just couldn’t keep up with the need. This year, we are working around the clock to keep intake open, even as the number of cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens needing urgent places skyrockets. But to do that, we need your help.
