To put these numbers in perspective, an average unspayed female cat has, on average, 20 kittens a year. By spaying these 215 cats, we prevented over 860 unwanted litters, that amounts to over 4,300 kittens! And that’s not even taking into account how many litters those kittens would have over the course of the year once they become of reproductive age (4 months old, fyi).

With male cats, with their capability to impregnate multiple female cats, the number of unwanted pregnancies we have prevented by neutering almost 200 male cats is incalculable.

A female dog has an average litter size of 6 puppies and can have 2-3 litters on average. Given where our dogs come from, let’s air on the side of 3 litters a year. That’s around 225 unwanted litters and over 1,350 puppies. Again, not considering how many liters would have resulted from those puppies becoming of reproductive age (6 months of age on average) and then reproducing over the course of the year.

We all know how nasty intact male dogs can be. I can’t imagine how many pregnancies would have resulted had those 68 dogs not been neutered.

We are so incredibly proud of the Pet Haven family. This could not have been accomplished without the help of countless individuals. From the intake managers bringing in these animals, the fosters welcoming their hearts and their homes, the adoption team finding their perfect match. It really takes a village.

Please consider any gift to support Pet Haven so we can continue to have a life-saving impact!
