Good Mews for September!

Good Mews for September!

The heat of the summer is finally breaking and the cool fall air is on its way. I love the change from summer to fall. For me, it is not the end of summer but the beginning of a new season that will soon burst with autumn colors.

The rescue landscape is constantly changing and here at Pet Haven we strive to adjust as seamlessly as possible with these changes. We continue to provide Minnesota pets and people with the support and services needed to improve and change their lives. I love the work we do and my heart expands every day seeing these lives we have changed for the better.

Our surgical suite continues to be a success! Not only are we able to do our own spay and neuter surgeries, which drops our costs dramatically, but we have also extended our services to other rescues and created a revenue stream! This is incredible progress and a testament to what dedication, vision, and partnership can do. Thank you to everyone who supports the success of our surgical center. We could not have this kind of success without the support of our volunteers who help on surgery days, do countless loads of laundry, pack surgical equipment, care for pets on surgery days, and the dedication of Dr Roni and Katie, our animal care assistant.

Thank you to everyone who makes this possible!

While we had to make the difficult decision to place an intake hold on felines last month, we had a record adoption month, and 98 pets found families. 83 were felines, and 15 were dogs. And we are happy to announce that we will be slowly opening our feline intake over the course of the month!

And even though we have been on a feline intake hold we did bring in some emergency situations that we could not turn our back on. I was able to get 3 cats into our care who were seen roaming, one with 4 kittens, one who was pregnant and had her babies a few days after coming in, and one who was in heat soon to become pregnant.

Additionally, our partner, Leech Lake Legacy, needed help. They were called in on a neglect case of 33 cats living in a motel room with little food or access to fresh water. They had nowhere to house the cats while they networked to find them placement. We opened our doors and the AMAZING Pet Haven team of staff and volunteers quickly stepped up and helped care for these poor cats. They were in surprisingly good condition and most were very friendly. All but 8 have been placed!

I want to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to all the people who stepped up to

volunteer to do cat care for these sweethearts! Thank you for all the love and care you have been giving these cats while staying with us. The Pet Haven family is nothing short of amazing. I am so incredibly proud to be a part of this organization and grateful for all the volunteers and staff who advocate for pets and people truly in crisis.

Pet Haven has seen a lot of change over the past year and I believe change

always opens the door for positive growth. We have a strong organization and an amazing volunteer team. I am excited about all the new growth with the leadership team and the direction we are going. Thank you for all you do to make sure Pet Haven continues to serve those who need us, pets and people. YOU ALL ARE PAWSOME!
