A Northern Star – This Little Light Shines Bright

A Northern Star – This Little Light Shines Bright

Emmy was found as a stray in northern Minnesota on a cold February day. She was dirty, hungry, scared and in need of a safe place to land. She was brought into a shelter partner of ours two hours north of the Twin Cities, Lakes Area Humane Society (LAHS) in Alexandria.

Upon examination, it was discovered she was covered in a sticky substance and suffered from severe frostbite on her ears and nose. This little lost gal was only 5 months old and would not have lasted much longer in the cold. Despite the wonderful care she was receiving at the shelter she was just too scared, and she would not let anyone touch her.

This is where partnerships have such value in saving lives. Lakes Area Humane Society contacted our shelter intake coordinator and asked if we could place her in foster care. How could we say no to such a sweet face? In partnership LAHS shared the drive with us meeting halfway, there in a parking lot in St Cloud, Emmy started her journey from dark to light finding family in the Pet Haven foster care program.

Emmy was unsure at first and needed to move at her own pace. We know the best thing to do is let a new kitty move at their own pace. Slowly she began to accept chin scratches and feel safe in the warmth of a quiet home. She found a soft spot to curl up and friend to call her own.

She even started to trust her foster mom!
