Why did Cats Pride send a gift like this to Pet Haven?

 

Because cats need help! Cats really need help right now. The plight of the cat is a difficult one and Pet Haven is here to help. Approximately 3.2 million cats enter shelters every year. Cats are often left behind when people move and are found as strays way more often than dogs. Our requests to help cats have increased dramatically and we are working hard to keep up!

 

With the COVID-19 crisis, Pet Haven has seen an increase in requests to help anything from loss of housing to unable to financially care for their pets. We have also come to the aid of our rural shelter partners whose cats before COVID had little chance at adoption and with the current crisis really needed our help. So Pet Haven has said YES and stepped up to help! As a result, our intake numbers have gone way up!

So much so we are on track to double the number of cats and kittens coming into our foster program. As a result of this increase in need, we have worked hard to increase our foster base and have been able to open up our arms to 373 felines so far just this year through August! Felines of all ages have come into the safety and care of Pet Haven’s Foster Home Program. That is more than we brought in ALL year last year!

Now Pet Haven needs help making sure these sweet souls have all they need so we reached out to Cats Pride for help and they said YES! Cats Pride Litter For Good program gifted a years worth of litter to Pet Haven so our cats would be sure to have a clean place to go. However, we were faced with another challenge. Because Pet Haven does not have a physical space we needed to find somewhere to store 25,000 pounds of litter! That is when our Executive Director reached out to Downtown Dogs Doggie Daycare and Boarding to see if they could help. Having just launched a new business, Dogs Day Out- a Doggie Spa, they had room in their warehouse and said YES!

A semi-truck full of 16 pallets of litter showed up on a bright beautiful day at the end of August. This greatly frees up funding to spend on medical needs and high-quality food!

There has been an immense uptick in need of help from owners in crisis due to economic challenges, from rural shelters affected by COIVD-19, and local shelters being closed or not being able to take in the numbers they were before. There is a crisis and Pet Haven has stepped up to help with Cats Pride and Downtown Dogs helping to save more lives!

We are incredibly grateful for our partnerships. Through the power of partnerships, communities can come together in crisis, solve challenges, and support one another.

Happy Tails – Pet Haven has found forever families for 345 cats and kittens from January through August so far and adoptions are still going strong, 66 adoptions in August! These adoptions give room for Pet Haven help even more! We so appreciate all the help we receive however we are always in need of more support.
